G = Grandfathered minerals: original description preceded the establishment of the CNMNC in 1959, and generally regarded as a valid species
A or IMA No. = Minerals approved by the CNMNC
Rd = Redefinition of the mineral approved by the CNMNC
Rn = Renamed with approval by the CNMNC
Q = Questionable mineral

Classification principles:
Subdivision of the Sulfide etc. subclass "2.E: Metalsulfides, M : S ≤ 1 : 2" is based first mainly on chemical principles, but also structural aspects play a role. Subdivision re-arranged compared to Strunz 9, now 2.EA Metalsulfides with M : S = 1 : 2 with Cu, Ag, Au; 2.EB Metalsulfides with M : S = 1 : 2 with Ni, Sn, PGE, Mo etc. - Layered structures; 2.EC Metalsulfides with M : S = 1 : 2, with Fe, Co, Ni, PGE - Pyrite-Marcasite family; 2.ED Metalsulfides with M : S = 1 : >2.
Further classification:
2.EA. Metalsulfides with M : S = 1 : 2 with Cu, Ag, Au: Cu-Au- and Ag-Au-Tellurides; Au tellurides.
2.EB. Metalsulfides with M : S = 1 : 2, with Ni, Sn, PGE, Mo etc. - Layered structures: New. Berndtite type layer structures and derivatives; Molybdenite type layer structures and derivatives.
2.EC. Metalsulfides with M : S = 1 : 2, with Fe, Co, Ni, PGE - Pyrite-Marcasite family: Pyrite type structures; Marcasite type structures; Gersdorffite type structures.
2.ED. Metalsulfides with M : S = 1 : >2: Metalsulfides with M : S = 1 : 3; Metalsulfides with M : S = 1 : 4.

To distinguish from classical Strunz numbering, on hierarchical "group" level, a numbering with 3 digits is used, like "2.EA.005. Sylvanite", instead of 2 digits (like "2.EA.05.") in the Strunz system.
